2022 U.S. Investor Inventions Survey

Despite geopolitical uncertainty and high inflation, investors began the year with an optimistic outlook, as most survey respondents expected higher levels of purchasing activity in 2022. Industrial and multifamily were the most favored property types, while seven of the top 10 most preferred markets were in the Sun Belt. Although lower returns are expected across sectors, investment volumes are expected to approach 2021 levels. Investors are more focused on the environment, as two-thirds of survey respondents expect to upgrade their assets for green certification.


The 2022 U.S. Investor Intentions Survey reveals commercial real estate investors’ strategies and their preferred markets and property types. Note that the survey was conducted several weeks before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
